The Killing Pact (2017)
- Hit me.
Again. - Another round? - Hold on. - Hello? Jerry. - Hey baby. - What do you want? Jerry? - I need my money. - You're drunk. - And you're a month behind, I need my alimony. - I don't owe you anything til next month, Jerry. - Hayley! It's an emergency. - Are you kidding me? I'm barely making things work with both of these jobs. - Can you just lend me the money? I'll get it back to you. You know I'm good for it. - No Jerry, you're not good for it. You not good for... - Hayley! Don't you hang up on me. I will come over there. I will come over there... - I'm sorry, Jerry. - Hayley! - Was that Jerry? - Just go back up to bed, okay? You wanna sleep in here tonight? - Are you gonna call the police? - No. It's just your dad, okay. No. - But he won't stop calling. - Yeah, I know. Just get some sleep, alright. - Okay. - Come on. - Okay. - Senorita Lisa, I cannot make this work, the fabric is shredded... - Speak English. Melanie, a word. - What can I do for you, Lisa? - Remind me when dress rehearsal starts. - An hour. - Oh, and you're not ready. And your sole purpose for being here is to make sure we'll be ready. - Well, we'll be ready. - I just passed several idle workers. Unfinished set pieces and a seamstress so distraught because the only costume for this performance is ruined. Not to mention Gretchen, clumsy Gretchen, who broke her leg last week because she didn't know the dance routine well enough. - I don't... - I thought that you had some pride in this theater and what it stands for. I certainly do. And to think how hard that I have worked only to have it all fall apart. - It won't. - And then you have your nose attached to that thing. - It's the budget... - Unaware that the world is crumbling around you. - Um, I have a delivery for the theater. - We'll be ready. - Oh? How? The main costume is ruined and I happen to know you don't have a spare. - Well actually, I... - I know what you're trying to do, Melanie. I know how you feel about me, and you seem to think that that means you can take and take and take. - I don't mean to interrupt, I just need a... - Don't try to sabotage me or this theater by not doing your job. - I'm not. - Not doing your job. Good, I'm glad you admit it. It's time that you earn your keep, Melanie. Now I am going to be in my office, and I don't want to be disturbed for 15 minutes. - Hi, I just need a quick signature here. - Have my niece do it? - Who's her niece? - I am. - Oh, great. I just need a signature right here, please. - Yeah. - Thank you. - Okay. - There you go, you have a good day. - You too. - Is that the costume replacements? - Yep. - Yes. - I don't understand. - Sorry Kevin, it's what the board has decided. - But Mark said that I'm the best... - Honestly Kevin, there are at least three much stronger candidates up for this position. The board felt that... - Are you sure that it was the board that felt, but not you Sarah? - I don't know what you're implying. - [Kevin Are you sure this isn't about that Night you and I... - I have no clue what you're talking about. - Come on, Sarah. - Grow up. - Grow up. What? - Oh, everything okay? - Sorry, another charming moment with my boss. Lousy day. - Yeah, me too. You wanna go out for drinks? - Yeah, I'm in. - Hayley, I'm just finishing up now, so. - Oh great, great. - Do you want help? - No, I'm good, I'm about ready to lock up. - Okay, see ya. - Thank you! - Hey Jamie. - Mom, uh, remember how I told you I had a really big report for my English class? - Yeah, if you're not too busy working tonight, maybe you can help me. - No no no no, no. This is your homework. I can't do that again, okay. It's meant for you to learn. - Fine. - You know what, I will proofread it though in the morning. How 'bout that? - When will you be here? - Uh, well I don't have any rideshares tonight, so I mean it really shouldn't... Hang on, just a sec. Alright, one just came in. Okay, I gotta take it, so. There's some leftovers in the fridge, alright. - Okay. - I'm sorry. - It's fine, we need the money. - Yeah. Hey, get started on your paper, alright? - I will. - Okay. - She looks at me with this seductive face, like of course she is. It makes no sense otherwise. Everything she's doing is on purpose, and I know it. - Hey! - Hi. - Hi. - Do you think she's doing it on purpose? - So, um, are you Kevin? - Yep, that's me. - So, uh, 345 East Hooper Street, we still going there? - Yep, that's the one. - It'll all work out. - I'm not so sure anymore. At least not as long as we're working together. It's a nightmare. - Do you know what, I'm really sorry, I gotta take this, it's important. Sorry. Jerry. Jerry, I know you're there. You called me, please just talk. - Where are you? - I'm working. - You shouldn't be on the phone while you're driving. - What do you want? - I want you to say your sorry for hanging up on me last night. - Come on, Jerry. - Say you're sorry for hanging up on me last night! - I'm sorry for hanging up on you last night. - Good. Now, say it again and mean it this time. - Can you excuse me, for just a second, thanks. - Wow, what do you think that was about? - No idea. - I'm sorry, I'm sorry about that. - No problem. - It's okay, though. I know a way that we can get there fast. - Is everything okay? That sounded serious. - Yeah, thank goodness for restraining orders, right? - Well if you have a restraining order, they probably shouldn't be calling you, huh? - No, they shouldn't, should they? - Hey, we're going out for drinks, come with us. - That's really sweet of you, but I have a daughter. - Look, Kevin and I have both had colossal suck days. - Mhm. - Yeah. We're both just gonna go get a little drunk and exchange sob stories. You need to come with us. It'll be like group therapy. Besides, there's a big tip involved. Yeah? - Okay. Okay yeah, let me just check in with my kid. - Okay. - Yeah! - She made it crystal clear that it was a one night thing. What'd she say, something about executives can't be seen cavorting with peons. - Hayley, you sure you don't want a drink. - Oh no, I'm driving. - And I was like okay, fine. Whatever, I was good with it. But then, not a week later, I think they called it budget cuts, but I got a pay cut. And then I got transferred to the call center. Wait wait, management, but still, come on. The call center? Like for the past year I've been working my butt off to get back to where I was, but every time I put in for a transfer, it gets rejected. Every time I'm up for a promotion, passed over. And she came on to me. - There are people in everyone's lives who'd make the world a better place by simply dropping dead. - So true. - Sarah Olsen, you weren't worth it anyway. - All right, so we've heard about Kevin's boss, we've heard about my aunt Lisa. Hayley? - No, no, you don't wanna hear about my sob story. - Oh yes we do. - Yeah. - So, I took my daughter and left my now ex-husband, Jerry. And in the middle of our really messy divorce, he got in an accident which left him in a wheelchair. So he's been declared disabled. He was unable to work, so his lawyers used that to get a large alimony out of me. So now I kill myself every month to get him money which he uses for his gambling addiction, which of course is never enough. So he's constantly showing up, calling me, threatening me, begging me, and pretty much doing whatever he can to make my life a living hell. - I'm sorry. Why not just call the cops? - Oh, I did call the police. I used to call them all the time. But you guys don't know Jerry. He has everyone fooled. And the cops, they don't wanna be seen being tough on a guy in a wheelchair. No matter how much of a monster he is. - Sometimes when everything is piling up on me and I feel like I'll be trapped that way forever, there is this idea that keeps coming back, and. - Ah, not this again. - Alright, alright, alright. - What. - Now, what if you get a group of people who are absolutely sick of their lives and you have them enter into a pack to improve each other's lives, no matter what it would take. - But what if they can't improve each other's lives? What if your life cannot be improved by the actions of another person? - Well sometimes, all it takes is someone else's perspective to improve things. - Someone like you? - Yeah. - Well that sounds wonderful, but it would be illegal to do what it takes to fix my life. - I think it would be illegal to do what it takes to fix any of our lives. - Illegal, maybe, unjustified, no. - Okay, wait a minute. Are you suggesting what I think you're suggesting? - It's so simple. Can't you see it? Right, I help Kevin. Kevin helps Hayley. Hayley helps me. - By doing what? - Whatever it takes. Face it, these people are never gonna stop making our lives miserable. You think they're gonna wake up one day and see the light? No. People don't change. So, I will take Kevin's boss. Kevin, you take Hayley's ex. Hayley, you take my Aunt Lisa. Bam, our lives are infinitely better, hm? - What? - You keep saying take, what exactly are you saying? - I want you guys to think about it. I'm just, I'm gonna get another drink. - It's on me. - Thank you. - You're welcome. - What's your name? - Sorry about your ex. Sounds like a real... - Yeah. - You deserve better than that. - We just met. How do you know what I deserve? - Okay, fine, let me rephrase it. I would like for you to be with someone who's better than Jerry. - I'm sorry about your situation, too. Have you thought about just switching jobs? - Yeah, but then again, why should I be the one to move? - True. - I dunno, maybe I'm just being petty about it. - No. - I dunno, maybe I should just let the past go. Look to brighter things. - Did you guys want anything from the bar? - No, no, I'm good, thank you. - Did you think about what I said? - About what? - Working together to solve our problems. - No, she's kidding. - Am I? - Okay, this is exactly what I'm talking about. This is what I call a classic Melanie moment, all talk. - Doesn't have to be. - Okay, here's a deal for you. If you have the guts to first, which I know you don't, then you can count me in. - Don't say it if you don't mean it. Hayley? - Hmm? - What do you think? Imagine waking up and not having that dread follow you around every moment. - It would be, it'd be really nice, but come on. Let's be serious. - I am. - Sure, I'm completely serious about needing another drink. - You know what, I, I really, I need to get back. Are you two ready? - Umm actually, I'm going to stay a bit longer. - Really? - And here is my part of the fare home. - Oh no no no, that's, that's too much. - Okay, you know what, here you go. Ah. You two have fun. - Oh, okay. - See you later. Alright look, Melanie, she gets these ideas. And she just gets really excited about 'em, and really doesn't think 'em all the way through. - Huh. - And her situation... It's a lot worse than mine. But she'll drop it by morning. That's how it always works. - So, you and Melanie, are you? - No, no. No no no, not us. No, we're just friends, that's it. - Where'd you guys meet? - The bar, actually. Yeah, I think we had both had a pretty terrible day. - Mm. - Come in to drink down our sorrows, and then we met, talked, clicked, you know. - But not romantically. - No, not with Melanie. Well not with anyone for that matter. How 'bout you? - Um. I don't know. I'm just starting to wonder if I could ever really do the whole relationship thing again. After Jerry. - You still love him? - No, I don't. I don't. I really, I need to get home. - Got it, totally cool. Okay, would you maybe wanna pick this up again, say, maybe tomorrow? - Tomorrow? Well, I actually have work. My other job tomorrow. - Right, yeah. - And then I had promised my daughter that I'd help her with her homework. - Cool, totally. - But, uh, Sunday, maybe? - Really? - Yeah Sunday. - Yeah, Sunday, perfect. Sunday. - Yeah. - Alright. - Great, Kevin. - Yes, Kevin. Okay, Sunday it is. I will see you then. Alright. - Leonidas, how come I don't know who that is. - It's history. It's some Greek king that fought in a battle against the Martians. Spartians. - It was the Spartans, yeah, I got it. Spartans. - Wanna read what I have so far? - Sure. Okay, Leonidas. - So tomorrow. - Mhmm. - You have a date? - He's just a friend. - That you just met. - Right, and I'm just getting to know him. - Isn't that a date? - Okay, yes, I guess it's a date. - Good, I mean, he's not a jerk, right? - I hope not. I guess we'll find out, huh? - Can't be any worse than Jerry. - Yeah, probably not. Hey, you know just because I call him Jerry that doesn't meant that you have to. He is still your dad. - Not anymore. You have fun on your date, okay? - Thanks, and you have fun with your Spartians. - Hello. - Hey, it's Kevin. - Hey, I'm just about ready actually, so I can... - Yeah, umm, about that, look, something's come up. I'm not like this, but it's, it's important. - Okay. Yeah, I understand. - Thanks, I'm sorry. - Yeah. - Here you go, alright yeah, no problem. - Hayley Udall? - Yeah, she's at the front. - Ah. Hayley Udall. - Yeah. - I'm Detective Marcs, Metro PD. I have a few questions for you. - Is this about Jerry? - No ma'am, do you know a Kevin Moore? - Kevin, yeah. - When was the last time you saw Kevin? - Uh, Friday, Friday night. - At what time did you see him? - I'd say it was 8 to a little past midnight. Yeah, that's when I dropped him off at his place. - Where had you been? - We went to a bar. I don't remember the name of it. It was on Hooper Street. - So other people saw you there? - Yeah. I'm sorry, can I ask you what this is all about? - I can't really give you that information at this point, but thanks for your time. - You've reached Kevin, please leave a message. - Hey Kevin, this is Hayley. Listen, the police came by and they were asking some questions. I just wanted to make sure that you were okay. Call me. Olsen. - Sarah Olsen, you weren't worth it anyway. - Hi, this is Melanie. Leave a message and I'll call you back as soon as I can. - Hi Melanie, this is Hayley from Friday night. Can you give me a call when you get this please? Thank you. Send. What? - We make a pact to improve things for each of us. No matter what it would take. Alright, I help Kevin, Kevin helps Hayley, and Hayley helps me. - Hey, I can't talk right now Hayley. - Kevin, hey, what's going on? - I'm sorry. Sarah's dead, now I don't have a choice. I'm so sorry. - What? - Kevin? Jerry come on. Pick up. Please pick up. - What? - Okay, you're okay. What do you want? - I think that you might be in danger maybe. - Is that some kind of a threat? No, but I really, I need you to listen to me please. - I still owe you a visit for hanging up on me. - Jerry, hey hey, where are you? - I'm at physical therapy, stupid. - No. - Oh no. - Oh, what the hell, man. Watch where you're going. - Hey Jamie, I'm gonna run a quick errand okay. I'll be right back. - Okay. - Hey, this is Jeremy Udall. After the tone, you know what to do. - Hey Jerry, it's me, can you call me please? Thank you. - You've reached Kevin. Please leave a message. - Come on, come on, come on. - Come on keys. Come on. - What? - Hey, Melanie, hi, this is Hayley. - Why are you calling me, Hayley? - I saw that Kevin's boss was murdered. I can't get a hold of him. - Kevin is doing what he's supposed to be doing. - Ho, hey hey hey. - Can I help you? - Hi, is Jerry Udall here? He told me that he would be here. - I'm sorry, there's nobody here. Everything's locked up for the night. - Are you sure? - Yes ma'am, I've been here for a few hours and haven't seen anybody. - Okay. - Have a good night. - Thank you. - Hey, it's Jerry Udall. After the tone, you know what to do. - Hey, umm, mom. - Uh huh. - Are you sick? - I can't get a hold of Jerry. He's not picking up, he wasn't at his PT appointment, his apartment, I just. - He's probably drunk and passed at somewhere. - I'm worried about him, I mean, what if he... - Why? Why are you even worried? - I don't know. - We're better off without him. - Okay, you know what, can you just not say things like that right now. - Mom, you're acting all weird. - I'm sorry. - I've gotta go to school. - Great. Okay, it's okay. - Mom! - Yeah. - Someone's at the door. Come in. It's for you. - Oh, Jamie. You better head out to school, alright. Go ahead. - Bye. - Come on in. Please. - This is my partner, Detective Whitman. - Hi. - Great, yeah, sit down. What is all of this about? - It's about your ex-husband, Jerry Udall. He was found dead last night in a parking lot downtown. - Jerry is... Dead. - Yes ma'am. - Can you possibly think of anyone that would want Jerry dead? - No, I, I don't know. - You two had a pretty rocky relationship, is that right? Domestic disturbances, ER visits, that sort of thing. - Yeah. - When was the last time you saw Jerry. Umm. Two weeks ago. He came into my work. - Wait, but didn't you have a restraining order against him. - Yeah. - So why didn't you call the police. - Just it's never helped before. - So where were you last night between eight and 10 PM. - I was here most of the time with my daughter. I did go out for a little bit to a PT clinic, but it was just for a bit. - Around what time were you at the clinic. - Ninish, nine. - Physical therapy at 9:00, that seems a little late. What were you doing there? I was looking for my ex-husband. - Was there anyone at the clinic that saw you last night? - Yeah, there was a security guard. - Well we happened to get some security camera footage from the club last night. - Do you possibly recognize this figure here. We think that's more than likely Jerry's killer. He's standing? - Who, what? - Well Jerry was, he was disabled. - If there's more that you could tell us. - Ms. Udall? - Well, thank you for your time, Ms. Udall. - I just, I have one more question. What exactly were you doing meeting Jerry last night? - I was bringing him money. - And he told you he was gonna be at the clinic? - Yeah. - Alright, that'll be all for now. - Thank you. - This isn't real. This isn't happening. I had to. I didn't want to. - Have you talked to Melanie about it? - She told me I was going to prison if I didn't hold up my end of the pact. - I found out Sarah was dead, and at first I thought it was just a coincidence. It had to be. Right? But then, I dunno. When I found out, I was excited one moment, then freaked out the next. The police questioned me yesterday. - Yeah, they talked to me, too. About you. - You wanna know the funny thing. I found out I'm being reconsidered for the promotion at work. Apparently Sarah was the only one opposed to it. But now, I... Melanie kept saying that you were relying on me. So I kept telling myself that. And to keep me safe too. I had to do it. I'm so sorry, Hayley. These were awful, evil people. Sarah. Jerry. Melanie's aunt. But I just, I didn't know it was gonna be this hard. I didn't know it'd be like this. I thought I was doing everyone a favor. What am I gonna do? Hayley, what am I gonna do? - Kevin, there's only one thing that we can do. We need to go to the police. - What? - We go to the police and we tell them what happened. - No, no no no no no no no no no no no no! No. - Kevin, if we go to the police alright, they can help us. - No no no no, I can't. No, you don't understand, you don't understand. Okay Melanie, she's different. I've never seen her like this before. Okay, all the time, I thought it was just idle talk. You don't understand. - Kevin, if we go to the police then they can help us. - No, of course you would say that, because you haven't done anything. I killed a man! - I know. But Kevin, you can't, you can't live like this, can you? So here's what we're gonna do. You and I, we're gonna go down to the police. I will go with you. We will go down together, and we will tell them about Melanie, and tell them about Sarah, about Jerry, about all of it, alright? - No, look, I just, - Please. - I need time to think. I need time to think about this. Okay? Alone. Please. - Okay, alright. Alright. Okay. - Hayley. - Hm? - You wouldn't turn me in, would you? - No. - Do you promise? Thank you. - Mom, Riana said she would help me with math, so I'm going over to her house. - Jamie, we need to talk. - Can we do it later? - It's Jerry, it's your dad. - Mom, what's wrong? - Here, come here, honey. - Mom. - He... He's dead. - What? - He was killed. - Good. I'm glad he's dead. - I know. I know. - It's weird. I don't feel anything. - That's not weird. - I used to hate him so bad, but now that he's gone, I don't know. I can't figure it out. - Me neither. - How did he, how did he die? - The police are investigating, okay? - Who is that? - It's a friend. He needs some help, so I'm gonna go and meet him, alright. - Can I go with you? - No, you should really be in school, alright? - I don't wanna go. I mean, because of dad. - Okay, alright, well why don't you just go ahead and stay here then. - I wanna go with you. - I just, I'm not sure that... - Mom. Please. I don't wanna be alone. - Are you okay? Okay, I'm gonna go and get my friend. - What's wrong? - He's just in a little bit of trouble, but he's gonna be okay. Okay. Kevin. Okay. Kevin? Kevin. Kevin. Okay. - Hi, are you Hayley's daughter? - Okay. - I'm your mom's friend, yeah. What are you guys doing here? - Um, well. - Mind if I stick around, wait for your mom to get back? - Melanie? - Hayley. - What are you doing here? - We need to talk. Let's go someplace. - Where are we going then? - Your house. You can give me a ride. - I'll, I'll get us some drinks. - Actually Jamie, I need you to go ahead and get started on your homework, alright. Melanie and I, we need to have a conversation in private. - Mom, I. - Jamie, please. - I don't have much homework today, so maybe... - Okay, alright, you know what, why don't you go ahead and watch something in my room, okay? Come on. - Okay. - Thank you. What now? - You tell me. - What happened to Kevin? - My guess is a heart attack. - But he was your friend. - Friends don't turn on each other, do they? - I'm not your friend. Does that mean you're going to kill me? - I hope not. It's your turn, Hayley. - What? - Kevin and I kept up our part of the agreement. Now it's your turn. - But I never had any kind of agreement. - This would be so much easier if you would just do what you said you would do. - No, I never said that I... - It was what you wanted. Besides, if you don't do this, things will get so messy. You have such a nice clean house. Such a nice clean life. Such a nice little family. Doesn't need to get messy. - Okay. What do you want me to do? - Lisa. She has it coming. Just like Kevin's boss and your ex, trust me. Don't let your conscience get to you. - Did Kevin have it coming? - Don't... Don't make this harder than it needs to be. We have a really solid plan here. - Why? - Why what? - Why have a plan? Why pull Kevin and I into this. You were perfectly capable of killing on your own. Why not just take care of Lisa by yourself. Why complicate things by having two, no, three more murders. - You ever think about your alibi? - I don't need one. - You sure? You know I hear stories all the time about men, women, all convicted by circumstance. It doesn't matter if you're innocent. They can prove you were with Kevin. At the hotel, you must've touched doors, doorknobs, who knows what else. Kind of suspicious when you didn't call for help, too. - I didn't need to... - Then there's motive. Huh. Your ex-husband dies. Kevin's ex-lover dies. Well, maybe you killed them both so you could be with Kevin, and when he didn't appreciate it, you killed him. - What happened to the heart attack? - Well I'm sure an anonymous tip about poison can clear that up? - Poison? - And that's just one scenario the police will see. - Think of your daughter. Without you she has no one. You wanna risk that with whatever the police might find and believe? Let's take a drive. Go down to the theater. - The theater, why? - I think that's the best place to do it. - No, but see, Jamie... - She'll be fine here. Look. You know what I'm capable of. There's no point in backing out now. It'll just mean things will happen that neither of us want. Don't overthink this, just do it. I'll be in your car. - Mom, what's going on? - I don't know. - Does she have something to do with... With Dad? What are you gonna do? - I need to go, alright. I'm gonna be right back, but I want you to stay here. - No performance tonight. Come on, I'll show you around. This is where all the excitement happens. My aunt sometimes likes to go backstage, not like she needs to but, she likes to pretend she has some influence over how a show turns out. Honestly, she has no idea how to run a theater, all the... - So you can't cover it. What? Okay. Just do the best you can for me. Okay thanks. You're here late. - I, I forgot something. - Guess what I just discovered. - What? - The Andrews Performing Art Theater is a rat's nest of incompetency thanks to you. You wanna guess why, why this theater is going to fail? Do you even know what you did? - Everything I do is for this theater and its legacy. - My legacy, thank you very much. Do you just go out of your way to prove how worthless you are? You failed to pay the premium for our insurance bond in time for it to go into effect. - No, I paid as soon as I could get you to transfer money into the theater's operating account. - Remember clumsy Gretchen who broke her leg a couple of weeks ago? Guess what, she's suing us. And because of you, our insurance doesn't cover it. So I'm gonna take an allotment out of your salary every month until it's paid off. I think that's fair, yeah? Come out. Open this. Careful. That'll stop a person's heart in 20 seconds. It's not cheap, either. - This is what you killed Kevin with. - It's effective. Listen Melanie, you still have time... - At 3 PM every day my aunt demands not to be disturbed for 15 minutes while she takes a power nap. And at that time tomorrow, after she goes into her office, wait five minutes and sneak in and inject her in the neck with the contents of that syringe. She'll be dead before she can make a sound. Then walk out as if nothing happened. Get rid of that syringe. - Melanie please. - Come on, I'll show you where her office is. There it is. - And where will you be? - I'll be out with friends. Coffee. Alibi, remember? - Alibi? I don't think that I can do this. - Hayley, this plan has gotta work. For both of us. You saw that. You saw what kind of person she is. What's weird is, she wasn't always like this. When I was a kid, I used to go over to her house during the summer. I used to have so much fun back then. I would beg my dad to take me over to Aunt Lisa's so I could go swimming. - What happened? - My dad killed himself. - What? Why? - My grandfather was a man of passion. He had an unquenchable love for the arts. He used every penny to build the Andrew Performing Arts Theater. Unfortunately, he was too much a lover of the theater and not enough of a businessman. This place was hanging by a thread when he passed away. It passed to my dad and Lisa. Knowing how much the theater meant to my grandpa, my dad worked his fingers to the bone bringing the theater back from the brink. But Aunt Lisa, she thought he was stupid for putting so much time and resources into it. She wanted to cut losses, sell it. The theater not only survived, but it thrived because of my dad. It became the premiere theater in the city. But Lisa always knew how to manipulate people. When she saw the theater was worth something, well, she took all he credit for the success, and then convinced the board members to push my dad out. This not only destroyed my dad financially, but it broke him. The theater had come to means as much to him as it did my grandpa, and to lose it in a betrayal by a close family member was, it was more than he could deal with. I tried to poison Lisa once before. - You did? - Yeah. And when she started feeling sick, she went to the hospital. But I was really careful. They weren't quite sure if she was intentionally poisoned. I was questioned by the police and for a time maybe suspected, but eventually they wrote it off as a fluke. But that's why I have to come up with a better plan. If I'm a suspect, I wouldn't inherit the theater. She's going to destroy everything my father and grandfather gave their lives to create. She has to be stopped. I, I will build it back up to what it should be, but without the theater, I... I have nothing. Nothing at all. - If I do this, if I agree to kill your aunt, promise to never bother Jamie or me again. - Of course. Of course. - Excuse me, Mrs. Udall. Jerry has another visitor. - Thank you. I didn't expect you to be here. - I wanted to see him. - I wouldn't have blamed you if you hadn't come. - Jerry... He didn't deserve this. You know, he wasn't perfect, but he had some virtues. - You're a saint, Hayley, putting up with my son the way you did. - It's my fault. - Don't say that. - It's what he would've said. And Jerry was never right. He was blind when it came to you. - Mrs. Udall? Sorry, uh, Ms. Udall, we have a few more questions for you, if you don't mind. - Is there a reason why I'm here? Am I being charged with a crime? - No, I just, I wanna clarify a few things with you. Okay. - So prior to your ex-husband's murder, we called you to clarify Kevin Moore's alibi, is that right? - You actually came down to my work. That's how it happened, but yes. - Alright. Well, we found Kevin yesterday in a motel. He's dead, apparently of natural causes. - That... That's horrible. - See Kevin was a suspect in the murder of his boss. Apparently he had an affair with. But he was released as a suspect based on you corroborating his alibi. A couple days later, your husband turns up dead, and now, Kevin's dead. Doesn't make any sense. - Was that a question. 'Cause if it is, no, it doesn't make any sense. - You can't clear that up for me. - I wish I could. - Is there something you wanna tell me? - Can I go now? - Sure. - Thank you. - I want this fixed by this afternoon, no excuses. Shh, I'll be in my office, no interruptions. - I'm sorry, I'm really... - Who are you? - I'm sorry, I think I just... - Everybody knows that I don't like to be disturbed. - I got turned around in the bathroom. - What are you doing in here? - I'm sorry. - Who let you up here? - I'm sorry. - I'm sorry. I'm sorry, I'm sorry. - Melanie. How many times have I told you to make sure no one disturbs me? - Thanks for the coffee. - Yeah. - What happened? - I was trying, I was standing... - Not hard enough. - She woke up. - You still could've done it. - I. - I warned you what would happen. - No! - I hope you kissed Jamie goodbye this morning. - Hi, it's Jamie, I'll call you back. - Jamie, come on, answer, all right, please, call me. - Cannot believe it. - Hi, it's Jamie. - That was the greatest. Cannot believe it. - Jamie this is your mother. Please call me when you get this, thank you. - See you tomorrow! - Jamie? Jamie! - Hey Jamie, where are you? - I love you. - Jamie? - She's in the trunk. - Okay Melanie, please. - She's brave. Trying to be anyway. - Please. - You should've stuck with the plan. - Don't hurt her, okay? - You should've kept your side of the pact, Hayley. - Melanie. - Even a moron like Kevin kept his word. - Yeah, and look at what happened to him. - Trust me, it's gonna be much worse for you. - Melanie. - This afternoon was the perfect time. - I know and I tried, I did. - I warned you not to doubt me. - Give me another chance, please. - At 8. Tonight's production is a VIP performance. A lot of donations will be coming into he theater. Lisa'll stay late to tally it up. Do you still have the syringe? - No, I, I got rid of it. - What are you going to use? - I don't know, umm. - Think of something. - I. - Knife, gun. It's gotta be quick but it also needs to be quiet. - I don't have a gun. - Knife'll work. But don't do it just once. Do it three times to be safe. Pick one that doesn't match the others in your kitchen. - Okay. - I'm sure you'll find a moment to get her alone. You can do it then. - Oh no, but she saw me today. - Mm, then you'll need to be quick. - And where will you be? - Close enough. - I need to see Jamie. - Not until it's done. - I will not go through with this if you do anything to her. I need to know that she's going to be okay. - Tonight then. - Melanie. Oh. - Hello Ms. Udall. Now would be a good time to ask you a few more questions? - No, no, it's not good. - I'll be brief. - Everything alright? - Yeah, yeah, I'm fine. What is it that you wanted? - Oh, I wanna let you know that we confirmed Kevin is Jerry's murderer. Did Kevin know Jerry? - No, I'm not sure, no. - You know what I'm trying to figure out? Is why Kevin would murder Jerry. I mean, it makes sense with Sarah. I mean he had motive. Yet there's nothing that ties them together. - I dunno. - You know, a security guard at Landontech said he saw a woman leaving just about the time Sarah Olson was murdered. Now did you know Sarah? - I didn't kill Sarah Olson. - I didn't ask that. - I didn't know her. - And how did you and Kevin meet? - I work part time doing rideshare, and he was one of the fares that night. - And when did you talk to him next. - Sunday, we were going out. - Going? - Yeah, he canceled. I wasn't sure why. - Uh huh, well, we subpoenaed his phone records, and... Apparently you called him just about the time of his murdering your ex-husband. I was trying to reschedule. And you got a text from him a couple days later, just before he died, saying I'm ready. Isn't that cryptic? - I didn't answer. - Why not? - He was being investigated by the police. I just didn't think it was wise to be dating somebody like that. - I have three dead bodies Hayley. Do you understand that? And when I look at what the common connection is, on the surface, I don't see one, but when I look closer, and I see the threads that tied between all of them, do you know where they dead end? They dead end with you. - I'm really sorry, Detective. I wish that I could help you. - Then help me. - I think it's time that you go. - Okay. If you want to make this easier on yourself and everyone, you know how to find me. - Having a little heart to heart? - He didn't look like the nicest guy. - No he didn't. So how'd things go with the ex-wife this time. - She knows something she's not telling us. I'd like to put surveillance on her. - Are you sure we'll get approval for that? 'Cause you know the department's cutting wherever they can. - We'll just have to alternate shifts ourselves. - Okay, I'm here. - About time. - Where is she? Where is she? - She's here. - Let me see her. - Show it to me first. - What? - Your weapon. Perfect. - Alright, can I see her please. - Jamie, oh my. - Hurry up, show's over. - The show was wonderful. - Oh thank you so much. Have a wonderful evening. - Thank you. - Well, looks like everyone's gone. - Is her car still there? - Yeah. Yeah, I'm gonna go inside and take a look. I'll keep you posted. - You, what are you doing here? - Lisa, listen to me. - Who are you? - Your niece, Melanie, she wants you dead, not me. - You were here this afternoon. I'm not here to hurt you. I'm here to warn you. - Just stay away from me. - Don't worry, Lisa. I won't let her hurt you. - Melanie, what is this all about? - This is Hayley, and she's here to kill you. - No. - Only, I won't let her get away with it. And when he police get here, they'll see that I was too late save my favorite aunt or stop her homicidal stalker. - Melanie! - She deserves it. You saw it. She's horrible, always tearing me down when she's the one destroying everything. And you, all you had to do was your part. Instead you just got Jamie killed. Don't move! Hayley! - Jamie. Jamie. Jamie. Jamie. - Shots fired, send backup. Hello! Hey, are you okay in there? It's the police! I'm gonna try to break you out, okay? Just stay back, okay? Alright stay back, okay? Hey, are you okay? Huh? - Where's my mom? - I don't know. - Come on! - No! Stop! Stop! Mom! Mom! - Stop fighting! - Jamie! - Mom! Mom! Let me go, stop! Where's my mom? - I told you to shut up! - Jamie! - Back here. - Where is she? - They, uh. Backup's on the way. - Stay back. - Where are they? Jamie! Don't, don't hurt her. - Drop it. - What? - Drop it. - Slide it over here. - Okay, let my daughter go. - I will when I have Lisa. I want to Hayley, but you're the one killing Jamie. - Please don't hurt her. - Where's Lisa? Oh Aunt Lisa? Come out or I'm killing this innocent girl. - Alright alright, I'm here. I'm here. There you are. You see Hayley, it's all about proper motivation. - Let Jamie go. - No. We can still make this work. On your knees! On your knees. Now Hayley. Kill her. - How? - Pick that up! Pick that up! Okay, drop it. Drop it. Pick it up. Pick it up. A knife would've been cleaner, but we're way past that now, hmm. - What do you have to gain from all this? - Money, right? Because it's always about money, isn't Aunt Lisa. But not for me. For me, it's a little bit more, hm. For me, it's knowing that I brought you to your end, and I put a stop to your greed and betrayal. I planned it so perfectly, but one thing always bothered me about it all and it was that you wouldn't know that I was behind it. You wouldn't know that you were paying for what you did to my family, what you did to your own family! - This isn't gonna work. The police, they've already seen you. - It'll work, okay, just wait and see. - You're insane. - You're not gonna get away with this. Your plan has failed. - It's fixable, I'll just have to frame you for the murders since it's come to that now. Now do it! - Stop this. - Don't move! - You can't, please, no, you can't please. You can't, don't, don't, don't. - Don't move. - You're crazy. - I prefer cunning. - Okay, then you should do it. Kill her yourself. You want a job done right. - You know what your biggest mistake was? Your mistake was thinking that we were all capable of killing like you. - Hayley! - We're backstage! - Melanie. - You took everything. You left us with nothing. You left me with nothing. I was 14. - No, no, Melanie. - Stay away from me! Ah! I did it. I did it. I did it. I did it, I did it, I did it, I did... - Oh, oh. Are you hurt, no? - Fine, I'm fine. - Good, okay. - You guys both okay? - Everything clear, everything good? I'll call paramedics. - Don't worry, we'll be going home soon, okay. - Hey guys. - Hey. - How we doin'? Hey, do you mind if I have a moment with your mom in private? - It's okay, yeah. - Okay. - Come on, let's get something from the soda machine. - I don't even like soda. - So, how's your leg? - Oh, there's a little chunk missing, but I think I'll be fine. - How 'bout you, you as okay as you keep saying you are? - It depends. - On? - On how much trouble I'm in. - Well, Lisa's in stable condition and she's been awake here and there, enough to corroborate everything that happened at the theater. - That's good. - Yeah, Melanie's in custody. She's been very vocal, and she'll probably plead insanity. But I'm happy to inform you that you're no longer a suspect. - Thank you. Thank you. Look, I'm really sorry about not being able to tell you everything that was happening. - Hey, you were threatened by Melanie and you didn't have a choice. Pretty sure the D.A.'ll see it the same way. You guys have been through a lot these last few days. It's a fresh start, huh. - Yeah, thanks. - It's been a long night, you gotta be exhausted. - Oh yeah, I'm actually starving. - Yeah, me too. - Let's get some breakfast. - Yeah, oh. - Who is it? - Somebody needs a ride to the airport. - Oh? - No, you know what, no. They can find somebody else. - Really? - Yeah. Come on. Let's go. |
